Derrick Rose Could Lose Money In Adidas Deal If He Leaves The NBA

Derrick Rose left the Cleveland Cavaliers last week to weigh his NBA future, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski and Dave McMenamin reported on Saturday.
Rose has reportedly grown frustrated with injuries and is "seriously" evaluating whether he wants to continue playing basketball.
While Rose is on a one-year, veteran's minimum deal with the Cavaliers, he would be leaving a lot of money on the table, according to ESPN's Nick DePaula.
If Rose were to retire, he would leave $80 million on the table in his deal with Adidas, according to DePaula. Rose signed a 13-year, $185 million deal with Adidas in 2012, but the brand is "protected" if Rose were to retire.
According to DePaula, in 2012, Rose was second in sneaker sales, beating out Kevin Durant and trailing only Kobe Bryant. However, injuries and poor play have diminished Rose's star significantly, though the brand is still obligated to promote his shoes.
Asked about Rose's departure — which the team reportedly was informed of, unlike last season, when Rose suddenly went missing before a New York Knicks game — Cavs coach Tyronn Lue said: "I want him to take his time. Like I said, it's a personal matter. Just know the team, the coaches, the organization, we all have his back. I wish him well, and we expect to have him back."
